Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Searching is free for UK brokers, with no card and no login. You only give a work email to see the full list of markets for a search.
How do you decide the order of markets?
Markets are ordered by how well their published appetite matches the risk you describe, with dedicated specialists for that trade placed ahead of broad composites. The Market Index scores come only from public, broker-facing sources such as the Insurance Times ratings and the British Insurance Awards. See How we rank for the full detail. How we rank.
Can insurers pay to rank higher?
No. No market can pay to rank higher, and we never hide a market because it has not paid us.
Does a listing mean the market will write my risk?
No. A listing shows that a market has publicly shown appetite for that kind of risk. It is not a recommendation and does not guarantee a quote. Always confirm appetite directly with the market.
What happens to my shortlist and client details?
Your shortlist, client references and notes stay in your own browser. They are never sent to us, so we never see them. Clearing your browser data removes them.
How do market alerts work?
Leave your work email on a trade and we will email you when a new market starts writing it. You can also opt in to a short monthly roundup. You can unsubscribe at any time.
What are the hard to place filters?
Tick a feature such as prior claims, hot works, work at height, unoccupied or non-standard construction, and markets whose published guides say they will consider it move to the top, with a short note, a link to the source and the date we checked it. It reflects published insurer and MGA guides only, so always confirm with the market.
Is this advice?
No. Who Writes This is an information tool for professional insurance brokers. It does not advise on, arrange or place insurance and is not a broker.
Our listing is wrong. How do we fix it?
Email help@whowritesthis.co.uk with the market name and what needs changing, with a link to where it is published if you can, and we will update it.
How does Who Writes This make money?
It is free for brokers. Any future paid features for insurers will never affect where a market ranks.
Who runs Who Writes This?
Who Writes This is run by Atlian Limited, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 1035997), company number 16251177, registered office 4th Floor, Silverstream House, 45 Fitzroy Street, London W1T 6EB.
